Who blocked me on Bluesky?

Updated

In short: Bluesky sends no notification when someone blocks you. You can spot a block from their profile, and the Block Checker shows how many accounts block any profile and which moderation lists it is on, for free. Logged in with Bluesky, you also see who blocks your own account, by name: only you can see that list.

Does Bluesky tell you when you are blocked?

No. Blocking is silent: the person who blocks you gets no confirmation sent to you, and nothing appears in your notifications. Blocks are public records on the network, but the Bluesky app does not list who blocks you.

Check any account

The bskycheck Block Checker shows how many accounts block a profile and every list it is on, free. Log in to see who blocks you, by name.

How to tell if one person blocked you

  • Their profile says that they have blocked you, and you can't see their posts.
  • You can't reply to them, quote their posts or follow them.
  • Their replies disappear from threads you are reading.

A deleted, deactivated or suspended account can look similar: its posts vanish too. If the profile no longer opens at all, the account is gone rather than blocking you.

How many accounts block you, and which lists you are on

Enter any handle in the Block Checker. It shows:

  • How many accounts block it, counted across the whole network.
  • Every list it is on: moderation lists (ranked by how many accounts block or mute through them), curated lists and starter packs.

A big number often comes from a moderation list: when someone subscribes to a list to block, everyone on it is blocked for them at once. Being on one popular list can add hundreds of blocks in a day. More in Bluesky moderation lists, explained.

Who blocks you, by name: your own account only

Log in to bskycheck with Bluesky, look up your own handle in the Block Checker and open the details: "Who blocks you" lists the accounts that block you, newest first. Only you can see this list.

For any other account, bskycheck shows how many accounts block it and which lists it is on, but never who. Blocks are public records, but a list of someone else's blockers turns a private choice into a target.

What to do if you think you were blocked unfairly

  • One person: let it be. A block is their choice and doesn't harm your account.
  • A moderation list: open the list (it is public), read its description, and contact the list owner if you think you were added by mistake.
  • A list used to harass: report the list in the Bluesky app; Bluesky's moderators can act on it.

Questions

Can I see who blocked me on Bluesky?

Yes, for your own account: log in to bskycheck with Bluesky and open your handle in the Block Checker; "Who blocks you" lists them by name, and only you can see it. For other accounts, only the number and the lists are shown.

How do I know if someone blocked me on Bluesky?

Open their profile: Bluesky says that they have blocked you, and their posts are hidden from you. You also can't reply to them or follow them.

Does blocking on Bluesky send a notification?

No. Neither the block nor an unblock is notified.

Why did my block count jump?

Usually because you were added to a moderation list: everyone who subscribed to block through that list now blocks you too. The Block Checker shows the lists you are on.

Can being blocked a lot get my account suspended?

No. Blocks only change what the people who block you see. Suspensions come from Bluesky's own moderation.
