Pronouns and links on your Bluesky profile

Updated

In short: open your profile and tap Edit Profile. Pronouns have their own section, between your display name and your description: pick she/her, he/him or they/them, combine them, or write your own (up to 20 characters). Links have their own section too: add a URL, give it a title if you like, and drag your links into order. Both are optional, public, and can be changed or removed at any time.

How to add your pronouns

  • Open your profile and tap Edit Profile.
  • In the Pronouns section, tap Add pronouns.
  • Pick a suggestion (she/her, he/him, they/them), or tap two to combine them: she/her then they/them gives "she/they".
  • Or type your own in the free field, up to 20 characters.
  • Save. To change them later, tap your pronouns in Edit Profile; to remove them, clear the field and save.

Pronouns are rolling out with Bluesky's app updates: if you don't see the section yet, update the app or try again in a few days. Adding pronouns is entirely up to you.

Where your pronouns show

Your pronouns appear on your profile right after your handle, in a slightly lighter color. They also show in the card that pops up when someone hovers your name on the web, and next to your name when someone replies to you. Like your bio, they are hidden from accounts you block or that block you.

Other apps built on the AT Protocol can read the same field, because pronouns are stored in your public profile record, like your display name and bio.

How to add links to your profile

  • Open your profile and tap Edit Profile.
  • In the Links section, add a URL: your website, newsletter, shop or other social accounts.
  • Give it a title if you want something shorter than the address.
  • Drag your links to put them in the order you like, then save.

Your links appear just below your bio, and one tap takes visitors straight there, without a "link in bio" page in between. On phones, people can tap and hold a link to preview its full address first. Links to payment pages such as Patreon and Ko-fi show as green buttons.

Links replace the old website field

Bluesky profiles used to have a single website field. Links are its replacement: each link is its own record, so you can show several and reorder them. If you had a website set, add it again as a link so it shows the new way.

Anything you put on your profile is public. Before adding a link, make sure it doesn't reveal more than you want, such as a private email address or your home address.

Questions

Why don't I see the pronouns option?

Pronouns are arriving with Bluesky's app updates. Update the app, or try again in a few days. Other AT Protocol apps may add the field at their own pace.

How long can my pronouns be?

Up to 20 characters, for example "she/they" or "he/him/his".

How do I remove my pronouns or a link?

In Edit Profile, clear the pronouns field, or remove the link from the Links section, then save.

How many links can I add?

Several: add each one in the Links section of Edit Profile and drag them into order. They show below your bio.
